私の娘（０歳～４歳）への英語教育の経験を参考までにお話します。

私はフィリピン人でフィリピンのマニラに住んでいます。９歳の息子と４歳の娘がいます。

子供は二人とも、近所や学校の友達よりも英語が流暢に話せます。

フィリピンでは日常的にはフィリピン語が使われますが、英語は公用語となっており、大学での授業はほとんど英語で行われます。

ただし、高校まで英語を学校などであまり勉強してこなかった人は、英語を聴き取れても、カタコトの英語しか話せないということも多いのも事実で、意識的に英語を話せるような工夫をしないと自然に話せるようにならないのが実情です。

そのため、子供の将来を考える家庭では、幼児のときから英語に触れる環境を意識的に作っているようです。

私は、娘が英語を流暢に話せるようになってほしかったので、娘が生まれてから英語を話せるように意識してやってきたことがあります。

いろいろなやり方がある中での一例として、捉えていただければ幸いです。

まず、私の娘が生後４ヶ月のときから私の英語環境づくりは始まります。

■生後４ヶ月～１歳

娘はまだ起き上がったり、座ったりはできなかったので、壁に吊ってあるテレビ画面にＤＶＤの映像を流すようにしました。

その頃、彼女が好んで見ていたのはCHU-CHUTV、BABY SHARK、COCOMELONでした。

これらは主に英語による幼児用の歌の動画です。

■１歳～２歳

娘に嗜好が芽生え、彼女が見たい動画をなんども繰り返すよう私にDVDの再生操作を要求するようになってきました。

そこで、私は娘に試しにスマートフォンを渡してみました。１歳でしたが、彼女はスマートフォンを操作する方法を簡単にマスターしてしまいました。それから彼女はYOUTUBEで好きな動画を自分で選んで観るようになりました。

その時、彼女が見ていたのはPeppa Pig, Dora The Explorerなどです。

私は、英語を学ぶには英語の動画は効果的だと考えていたので、娘にはフィリピン語ではなく、英語の児童動画を見るように促していました。

ただ、私は子供に英語の児童動画を見せておけば、自然に英語が身につくとは思えませんでした。

そこで、私はいつも彼女のそばにいて、彼女に英語で話しかけ、英語でやり取りするようにもしていました。今でも娘との会話は基本英語です。

親が子供といっしょにYOUTUBEで英語の児童動画を見るのはとても効果的だと思いますが、子供がまだ、英語きちんと理解し、英語を話す方法を知らない段階では、できるだけ親は子供と動画をいっしょに見て、子供が理解出来なさそうな箇所は、わかりやすく説明してあげるというフォローが必要だと思いました。

また、子供もどんどんわからないことを拙い英語で質問するようになりますが、これに対し辛抱強く、対応していくことも重要だと思いました。

また、スマートフォンなど電子機器を幼児に渡すと、舐めたり、投げたり、目に近づけて観る、長時間観すぎるなど、気をつけなければばらないこともたくさんありますが、私の経験では、スマートフォンを娘に自由に使わせたことは英語教育にはとても効果的だったと考えています。

今、私の娘は4歳です。彼女は英語を話すのが上手で、英語でたくさんのことも学習しました。基本的には彼女な英語で考え、話をしますが、最近では、私は彼女に私たちの言語（フィリピン語）を教えるようになりました。近所で遊び友達も増えたこともあり、今ではフィリピン語も流暢に話せるようになりました。

I would like to talk about my experience of teaching English to my daughter (0-4 years old) for reference.

I live in Manila, Philippines. I have a 9-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

Both children speak English more fluently than their neighbors and school friends.

In the Philippines, Filipino is used daily, but English is the official language, and most university classes are conducted in English.

However, it is a fact that people who have not studied English much at school until high school often can only speak broken English even if they can hear it, so devise ways to consciously speak English. The reality is if you don't, you won't be able to speak naturally.

Therefore, it seems that families who think about the future of their children are consciously creating an environment where they can come into contact with English from an early age.

I wanted my daughter to be able to speak English fluently, so I've been conscious of being able to speak English fluently since my daughter was born.

I would appreciate it if you could take it as an example among various methods.

First of all, my English environment starts when my daughter is 4 months old.

4 months to 1 year old

She couldn't get up or sit down yet, so she decided to play the DVD footage on a TV screen hanging from the wall.

At that time, she liked CHU-CHUTV, BABY SHARK, and COCOMELON.

These are videos of songs for toddlers, mainly in English.

1-2 years old

Her taste has sprung up in my daughter, and she has begun to require me to play DVDs to repeat the videos she wants to watch.

So I gave my daughter a smartphone as a trial. She was one year old, but she easily mastered how to operate a smartphone. Then she started to choose and watch her favorite videos on YOUTUBE.

At that time, she was looking at Peppa Pig, Dora The Explorer, and so on.

I thought English videos were effective for learning English, so I encouraged my daughter to watch English children's videos instead of Filipino.

However, I didn't think that if I showed my child a video in English, I would naturally learn English.

So I was always by her side, talking to her in English and also trying to communicate with her in English. Even now, conversations with my daughter are in basic English.

I think it's very effective for parents to watch English children's videos on YOUTUBE with their children, but when the children still don't understand English properly and don't know how to speak English, parents can watch videos with their children as much as possible. I thought that it was necessary to follow up by explaining the parts that the child might not understand in an easy-to-understand manner.

Also, children start to ask questions in poor English that they don't understand, but I think it is important to be patient and respond to them.

Also, when you give an electronic device such as a smartphone to an infant, there are many things that you have to be careful about, such as licking, throwing, watching close to their eyes, watching for too long, etc., but in my experience, the smartphone I think it was very effective for English education to let my daughter use it freely.

Now my daughter is 4 years old. She is good at speaking English and she has learned a lot in English. She thinks and speaks her English, but lately, I've started teaching her our language (Filipino). With more playmates in our neighborhood, she is now fluent in Filipino.
