0-1. How EIGORU Works
エイゴルの仕組みと特徴
Eigoru was established in 2009 as a one-on-one online English conversation service for learners in Japan. Unlike other online English schools, Eigoru was founded together with English teachers of that time with a structure designed to ensure that overseas instructors would never have to travel to a foreign country for work and live apart from their families. Eigoru also differs from many online English schools in that it uses a fixed weekly slot system. Once a student selects a teacher, that teacher calls the student at the same time every week — no reservation is required on the student's side. This eliminates the idle waiting time teachers would otherwise spend waiting for student calls, allowing them to dedicate their full day to teaching and earn a better income. At the same time, by reducing school administrative staff to as close to zero as possible, Eigoru is able to offer teachers a level of compensation that other schools simply cannot match.
The foundation of keeping administrative staff as close to zero as possible lies in ensuring that both teachers and students share a common understanding of Eigoru's rules. For this reason, unlike at other schools, it is extremely important that teachers thoroughly understand this manual and are able to guide students accordingly. Please keep this in mind as you read through it.
エイゴルは2009年に設立された、日本向けのマンツーマンオンライン英会話サービスです。他のオンライン英会話スクールと異なり、海外の講師が別の国へ出稼ぎに行き、家族と離れ離れに暮らすことにならない仕組みとして、当時の英会話の先生とともに立ち上げたスクールです。また、多くのオンライン英会話スクールとは異なり、エイゴルは週固定枠システムを採用しています。生徒様がいったん先生を選ぶと、毎週同じ時間に先生からコールが届きます。生徒様側での予約は不要です。これにより、先生側も生徒からのコールを待つ空き時間がなくなり、一日をフルタイムで授業に充てることができます。その結果、より良い収入を得られるように設計されたものです。同時に、スクールを運営するスタッフを限りなくゼロにすることで、他のスクールにはない水準の報酬を先生に実現しています。
このスタッフを限りなくゼロにする根幹の仕組みは、エイゴルのルールを先生と生徒が共通に理解することにあります。そのため、他のスクールとは異なり、先生がこのマニュアルをしっかりと理解し、生徒を正しく導くことが非常に重要です。ぜひその点をご認識いただいた上で、本マニュアルをお読みください。

⏰ Punctuality is non-negotiable / 時間厳守は絶対条件
In Japan, being even 2 minutes late is considered disrespectful. A child may be sitting in front of their computer, excited to see you, having told their parent "my teacher is calling today." If you do not appear without advance notice, that child and their parent will be deeply disappointed and angry. This is not an exaggeration — it is the reality of teaching Japanese students.
日本では2分の遅刻でさえ失礼とみなされます。子供の生徒様がパソコンの前で「今日先生が来てくれる！」とわくわくして待っているかもしれません。事前連絡なしに現れなければ、その子供も保護者も深く傷つき、怒りを感じます。これは誇張ではありません。
💬 How you explain matters / 言い訳の仕方が重要
In the Philippines, heavy rain can stop transportation. Japanese students may not understand this — but how you explain it is just as important as explaining at all.
フィリピンでは大雨でジープニーが止まることがあります。日本人にはわかりにくい状況ですが、説明の仕方が重要です。
"I couldn't come because of rain."
「雨で来られませんでした。すみません。」
"Rain was heavier than expected and transportation stopped. I will leave earlier next time."
「予想以上に雨が激しく交通機関が止まりました。次回は早めに出発します。」
✉️ Prompt email replies are essential / メールへの迅速な返信は必須
Trial students expect a reply within 24 hours. No reply means they move to another teacher. The EIGORU office cannot cover for a slow reply. You are the first point of contact.
特に新規のトライアル生徒様は24時間以内の返信を期待しています。返信がなければ次の先生に移ります。あなたが最初の窓口です。
📈 Performance directly affects your income / パフォーマンスの結果は直接収入に影響
No students means no income. Complaints affect your profile status. Repeated violations result in removal. EIGORU is a meritocracy — good teachers thrive, and teachers who do not perform naturally stop receiving students.
生徒様がいなければ収入はありません。エイゴルは実力主義です。良い先生は自然と成長し、そうでない先生は自然と続かなくなります。
