Hi everyone! My name is Maja. You must have seen and heard of my two-minute video. Anyway, let me introduce myself further on this page as others want to be honed in their writing skills as well.
I am a graduate of the University of the Philippines and an accountant by profession. To be able to speak good English is one thing, and to be able to write it, is another thing. I have always endeavored to do good in both.
As a child, whenever I would not understand an English word, I would write it down, look it up in the dictionary, and say the word over and over again until it would sound perfect. I would read out loud stories to enhance my conversational skills and reading comprehension. My passion for reading early on has developed my comprehension skills as well.
As a pro, I would expose myself in conducting trainings, doing emceeing jobs, and delivering messages before an audience from all walks of life during the best years of my life. I would take every opportunity to write in the context of a hobby, school activity, or work. I had also taught for seven years on a part-time basis at the Ateneo de Davao University in the Accountancy Department where English had been the medium of instruction. Also, my rigid training at law school has served its purpose to hone me in articulation and confidence, in both spoken and written communication skills. I had two years of offline English teaching experience with a student from Thailand pursuing her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Baguio in 2002 until 2004.
This is how my English journey came to be. And, interestingly, it did not stop there.
I took an audit course of Creative Writing under then Evelyn Miranda-Feliciano, international writer and author, and the only Filipino contributor among 64 foreign writers to ‘Atlas of Global Christianity 1810-2010’ (University of Edinburgh Press: 2009)
I also finished a credit course of Basic Journalism under then Glendale Yap, a columnist-writer of Davao City.
The English language has evolved and I have taken English tests at Upwork (formerly oDesk freelancer site) to build-up my credibility on the subject:
Upwork Tests Taken: Ranking (which my vary either one notch up or down at any given time as passers continue to add up through time)
1. English Spelling Test (U.S. Version) – No.1
I have also earned an “above average” distinction for the following tests:
English Vocabulary Test, Business Writing Skills, English Spelling (UK Version); Business Writing Skills, Creative Writing-Fiction, English Vocabulary Test, English Punctuation and Mechanics (U.S.Version), and; Content Writing Skills.
I finished with a final grade of “1.0” in Business Communication course in an online MBA Program for SY 2012-2013 at the University of Southeastern Philippines, the “Top 5 University of the Philippines for SY 2011-2012”.
With adequate exposure and training, I can teach you Basic English, pronunciation, sentence construction, sentence intonation patterns, grammar, reading, listening, and writing. As such, let us “enjoy” learning English together.
I have been teaching part-time at EIGORU for more than two years now- and blessed with very hardworking students who are willing to invest for the “nth” contract for the sheer reward of “learning”.
The world is a better place to live in. I love to do stitch works without patterns, paint, be my own chef, read, play the piano, and sing. Walking, swimming, and dancing are my forms of exercise to get fit.
So, I am encouraging you out there even those with “zero knowledge” on the English language, to give yourselves a try, and make your EIGORU English Online School experience a phenomenal success. I know YOU too can do it!
